Mission Statement

Eastham Dog Owners Association (EDOA) promotes the welfare of dogs, responsible dog ownership and equitable town ordinances relating to dog ownership in the Town of Eastham in a spirit of neighborly regard and in a manner that will maintain the unique beauty of Cape Cod.

OBJECTIVES

  • Enhance the health, welfare, educational and recreational opportunities for dog owners and the public in Eastham
  • Support a responsible safety program and disaster plan for Eastham dogs
  • Promote fair and equitable dog by-laws which place the burden of responsibility on the dog owner
  • Work in cooperation with town officials to address dog issues should they arise

Goals 2009

Accomplishments 2008

·  Coordinate with Cape Cod DART (Disaster Animal Response Team) to develop a disaster preparedness plan.

·  Increase EDOA membership.

·  Assert the responsibility of dog owners to clean up after their dogs.

·  Explore the Mutt Mitt program on the Eastham Cape Cod Bicycle Trail.

·  Promote a dog friendly community.

·  Encourage dog modification training for problem dogs.

·  Explore dog recreational opportunities.

·  Explore accessibility of Bee’s River/First Encounter Beach year round for pets.

·  Installation of Wiley Park Memorial Benches.

·        Non-profit Status 501 (3) C completed.

·        Mullen Foundation grant processed and accepted.

·        Mutt Mitts program continues to grow.  Nauset Kennel to donate poop bags in addition to   donations received from Agway and the Town of Eastham.

·        First Encounter Beach receptacle installed by the town during off-season. 

·        EDOA Emergency Pet Shelter upgraded to a Regional Pet Shelter at the Nauset High School.

·        EDOA’s website completed.
