Synopsis of Annual EDOA Meeting Candice Nagel of the Pilgrim Bark
Park captivated and awed the group of 30+ EDOA members in attendance with her description of how the dog park in P-own came
to be. Community organization and fundraising were two of the spectacular successes of the P-town dog onwers having
garnered the support of nearly every group in town and raising over $200,000 for the facility. Candace stressed
that the community really pulled together to provide an amenity that is enthusiastically used and praised for providing a
clean, attractive park that is drawing dog loving tourists to the town.
Selectwoman Amy Eckman answered
questions from the audience regarding the problems being faced at Dyer Prince Beach area. This is the only area in town
at which dogs are allowed on the beach during the summer months. Despite the restriction on times of use to just after
dawn and just before dusk there have been complaints from abutters. It seems that traffic and crowds have impinged on
their enjoyment of their own property. As a result, unwelcoming signs have gone up, and threats of closing the
area to dogs have been expressed.
The EDOA members are very concerned about loosing this amenity and were
enthusiastic about making their point of view known. Plans are being made to bring this discussion to the Board of Selectmen.
Elections were held. Ed Daniels was re-elected vice president. Lu St Aubin was elected treasurer.
Board members will now include Jean Hilva, Kathy Herrick and Judy Sendak. Re-elected to the board were Katrina Boucher
and Krystal Boyd. Resignations were reluctantly received from Mary Beth O'Shea (treasurer) and Bernie Kaplan
(board). Their service was broadly praised and many thanks were extended.
